Fred Waddell




Fred Waddell, 69, of Ridgewood community, Caryville, Rt. 1, died Aug. 23 at LaFollette Medical Center.

Mr. Waddell had owned and operated Waddell Supply Co. and The Door Shop near Lake City from 1962 to 1990.

His wife, Lavergne Jackson Waddell, survives him. She is employed by Clinton Office Supply on Hicks Street, Clinton. The Waddell’s were married July 8, 1946 in LaFollette.

He was the son of the late Cloyde Lee and Maggie Jones Waddell. Mr. Waddell was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Campbell County. A brother, Harry Waddell, also died earlier.

Mr. Waddell served with the Navy in the North Atlantic abroad the destroyer USS Neal A. Scott during World War II and received the Bronze Star.

Mr. Waddell was a member of Coal Creek Masonic Lodge No. 492, F&AM, and Coal Creek Chapter 226, Order of the Eastern Star.

He was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed fishing at his farm pond where he kept catfish, bluegill and bass.

Survivors also include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Maurice Stooksbury; and a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Glenna Newport Waddell, all of Caryville; three sisters, Ruby McCarter and Mary Disney, both of Caryville, and Naomi Gamble of Kingston; and two grandchildren, Kelli Leann Raines of Taylor, Mich., and Brian Aubrey Waddell of Caryville; Odeva Lovely, a special employee, operates The Door Shop for the Waddell’s.

The funeral was held Tuesday in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Watts and the Rev. Jim Wilcox officiating. Burial was Wednesday at Oak Grove Cemetery.
