Melvin Waldroup, 56, of Salina, Kansas, died Saturday at his home. A son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Anna Waldroup, live on Blockhouse Valley Road, Clinton.
Mr. Waldroup was born July 6, 1937, in Clay County, NC. His parents are Craig and Moneree Hooper Waldroup of Oak Ridge.
A resident of Salina since 1988, he retired from the Air Force after 20 years service. A military security police specialist, he served in Vietnam and was the recipient of a Bronze Star. He also received second runner-up honors in the Tactical Air Command’s Top Cop competition. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association.
Mr. Waldroup had been employed with Love Box Co. in Salina and earlier worked as a regional security supervisor for the Wackenhut Corp. in Chicago, IL., and as a manager of Blue Beacon Truck Wash.
Mr. Waldroup was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No 1432, in Salina, the American Association of Retired Persons and the First Southern Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and son and daughter-in-law, survivors also include his wife, Peggy Northern Waldroup; a daughter, Pamela Barnett of Genoa, Neb; sons, Ronald Kramer and Rob Barnett, both of Salina, and Gary Waldroup of Oliver Springs; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held Monday in the chapel of Ryan Mortuary in Salina with the Rev. Glenn Davis officiating. Burial was at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.
