Holland and Belgium

Holland

Since we only stayed in Amsterdam for one night, we really didn't see much at all of this wonderful country. It is obvious that there is much freedom and diversity here. I am also sorry that we didn't get to eat any really good food as I have seen wonderful Dutch recipes.

We have actually spent more time in Aruba (prior to cruises in 1993 and 1995), and our Saba vacation (1987-88). We have also visited Bonaire with their pink sand beaches, and Curacao with its beautiful port and pontoon bridge. The people of the islands are very friendly, and proud to be of Dutch heritage.

The Holland WebRing is a great listing of websites.

Belgium

We spent even less time in Belgium than Holland. We opted not to get up and take the early train non-stop to Brussels. Big mistake! The next train was packed, and stopped at every train station along the way. We were stuck with our luggage out between the bathroom and automatic doors. I sat on my scooter trying to stay out of the way, and John had a little fold down seat. He often had to stand up to let people board the train. Then, they announced that we were to be very careful with our property as there were thieves on board. But, we had no problems. Many people got off at the airport, but ours was the very next stop. We saw even less of Belgium than Holland, just passing through the train station. But, our vacation was quickly drawing to a close as we had a plane to catch in London.
