Eating well means eating foods in as close to their natural state as possible.
That means eating fresh fruits and vegetables: "strive for five" fruit and
vegetables everyday. Fresh frozen foods are usually better than canned. Eating
whole fruits and vegetables is better than drinking a lot of juice (more fiber
is in the whole fruit). But, anyway you do it, food you make is usually better
than prepackaged foods from the store. You must read labels!
Eating well means eating a variety of foods from the Food Guide Pyramid. Some people will eat just about
anything, and they should do well in getting the nutrients they need. The more
limited your food likes, the fewer foods you eat, the less likely that you will
get all the nutrients you need.
Eating well means that you will get all the nutrients you need from the foods
that you eat every day. Supplements are usually not necessary if you eat well.
If you feel you need a supplement (due to sickness, or a chronic condition) get
some advise as to what you might need. Most excess vitamins and minerals that
you take will be excreted in your urine and that can get expensive if it is not needed
by your body.
Eating well means you will have more energy, and are likely to get the necessary
exercise (even walking) so that you will not add excess weight which is a problem
with many of us today.

Extension Office, or County Health Department.
