Bryce's early birth was due to a placental abruption early in mom's pregnancy, which
became more problematic with each passing week. Mommy went into the hospital on
April 14, 1997 with contractions 2 minutes apart and a partially effaced cervix.
Under the expert care of a talented perinatology team, Leslie was administered
magnesium sulfate, indomethacin, and terbutaline to inhibit contractions, and
received 3 series of Celestone (betamethasone) injections to mature the baby's lungs.
After 5 weeks and 2 days
of hospital bedrest, the amniotic sac ruptured, and Leslie's doctors decided
to deliver our "Miracle Boy" via Cesarean Section. The little peanut decided to be
breech early in pregnancy and never changed position! Mommy will never forget his
surprised little gasp, or the tiny eyes peering from within several blankets as she
kissed him goodbye on his way to the NICU.
