Hi
I'm Mike Monroe. I am doing research on the Monroe, Estruth,Flannery
and Harter lines among other.Right now I am looking for Henry Monroe who
is proving to be very elusive. He was born about 1843,in Ohio , but he
may have been an Orphan and may have gone by the name of Munry or
Robinet although he was buried as Henry Monroe in the Murry Ridge
cemetary west of Elyria Ohio. He married Sophia Estruth of Elyria Ohio
in 1877 and moved to Lansing Mich. in about 1880 (I found him in the
1880 Mi.census in Delhi Twp.).
My wife Vicki and I made a trip to Elyria Ohio and saw the house that
Henry's son Edward built at 110 Bell Ave and went to some of the
librarys there. We also have made a couple of trip to Indiana. Thanks to
Vicki's aunt Maggie, who lives in Auburn Ind. She called around to the
cemetaries for us and found my gg grandfather and mother's grave site in
Ege Ind. We went to the Churubusco Ind. library, there we looked through
plat books from the late 1800's and found Peter Flannery's Farm. Then we
drove to the farm and took pictures of the house there now (it
could possably be the original house). We also went to the Allen Co.
library in Fort Wayne and looked at some records there.
We try to see all we can on these trips we take. We do this by
taking secondary highways and checking out all the small towns along the
way. On the way to Indiana we drove across the Langley covered bridge
just a few mile north of Centreville Mich. While we were in Ohio we went
to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in Cleveland.
It is true getting there can be the best part of the trip all you
have to do is plan to have the time. Then you can just relax and check
out all the old houses and buildings and you can find some pretty unique
places to eat and visit.
Presently I'm looking through the 1870 census records for him, but
the indexes for the 1870 census for Ohio are few and far between. I have
looked through the ones in the Allen Co. Ind. and the State of Mich.
Librarys and have the information for Monroe and Robinet from these
typed up and I am ready to start searching the Micro film rolls now.
Well thats about all there is to searching my search for my roots.
Just remember if your going to do this that it is a hobby and you should
have fun doing it. If the process gets to be too much take some time off
from it and start again later.
