Micki, I have viewed this page not long after you posted it and was very impressed with the tribute to Russ. I have just run across it again and have sent it to several friends online. I worked for the Greenville Police Department 13 years before leaving and acc pting employment with the state arson team. I was on the scene of Russ' murder about twenty minutes after it happened and worked on the case or in the command post for the week following. hi, my name is Robin. I thought this page awas touching. I checked it out, because my dad is a cop, and I have grown to love his cop buddies like they were family and I have already lost two of them, so I know how you feel. I couldn't stop crying throu h out this page. When I read in the guestbook about his son Matthew seeing the page for the first time and he kissed it and said "That's my daddy" that really made me cry because it's really touching. When I first read the story about James getting ki led, I wanted to be a police officer when I grow up now, more than ever, because I want to take people like that off of the street.

Micki, Your memorial for your brother is wonderful. You did a great job and I'm sure he is very proud of his big sister. I remember reading about his death in the paper. The detectives in charge of our son's case speak of him often. They still remember hi . Some of them had gone through training with him and knew him personally. Since our involment with the Sheriff's dept began, I can tell you, the average person has no appreciation for what these men and women give on a daily basis. I too lost a brother in the line of duty in 1990, Officer Joseph Martin with the Metro Dade Police Dept. in Miami, Fl. he was 28y/o, with a wife, and two small children. I will never get over receiv ng the phone call in the middle of the night hearing my brother had been shot, to this day almost 9 years later, if that phone rings in the middle of the night, I jump. I am thankful that the man who killed my brother is on death row. I did not know Russ as I was a cop in Greer at the time of his tragic death. I did attend services as I have before for fallen officers up north. I did spend several nights in Greenville with other officers on our own time hunting down the animal that gun ed Russ down and I know I did not want to be there when he was captured because I'm not sure I could have been as calm as the SWAT team. I know you must miss him and I feel for you. As a fellow law enforcement officer we all miss him and can only hope that he is resting peacefully and satisfied with what has transpired down here. I too would have liked to see the animal get the death penal y but it did not happen so we deal with it. After twenty years of Military Police duties, after deployed to three forgin contrys to serve. I'm always sadden to read about the death of a police officer. I have seen death, God have ask a soldier to lay down your weapon and come home. God be with yo , I know your fellen love one is looking down on us from that station in the sky at that great roll call he will say "present and ready for duty."
