Two books were used for the 1840 and 1850 visitations by two different compilier. Book 1 contains part
of the 1840 visitation and the 1850 visitation. Book 2 is a continuation of Book 1 for the 1840 visitation.
The first complier used the left side of the pages for the 1840 visitations except for a few pages where
he continued his notations on the right side. The handwriting is the same on these pages. Other dates in the 1840 Book 1,
are Monday, 23 March and Thursday, 26 March 1840. The dates noted in Book 2 are 3 Aug 1840, Sept 3, 1840, 7 Sept 1840,
Sept 22 (no year noted), and 5 Oct 1840.
The second complier used the right hand side of Book 1 for the 1850 visitation, dated Nov 25, 1850
entered on the right side of page 1. Other dates noted are 20 November 1850, 26 November 1850, 4 December 1850 and 26 December 1850.
Five townlands are listed: Gortnamoya, Tamey More, Metichin, Carr and Killy Kergin.
I have chosen to divided the 1840 visitation from the 1850 visitation. Most of the page numbers
for the 1840 visitation in Book 1 will have odd numbers. I have kept the numbers assigned to families
by Richard Torrens. When he did the 1850 visitation he combined them into one text
where I decided to do them separately They is no right way, only a matter of preference.
Family numbers and page number do not appear in the original manuscript. Families which appear on the
left hand pages have been assigned F and those appear on the right hand pages have been
assigned X.
The 1840 visitation has 7 columns in which data was entered. The headings of the columns
appear below. The only one of genealogical interested is the column head "No of Children".
At the beginning of the visitation, the data was entered. As the visitation progressed,
the data was omitted. I have entered them in this text when they were available.
At the bottom of each page is a total of the number of individuals on that page.
The tallies do not totally correctly as indicated by the number of individuals on that page.
Names have been overwritten starting with page 3 and continued through page 21. The ink is
darker. In some cases, the original surname was used and other cases "DO" was inscribed over
the original surname. An example would be DO inscribed over Gilmore.
Names that are not clear are enclosed with a parentheis.
Again, odd numbered pages of this book are for the 1840 visitation. A few pages on the
right included the continuation of the 1840 visitation .
Scanned copies of pages 1 and 2, 41 and 42, and page 49 and 50.

The above headings used to define the columns. At the beginning of the visitation, the information was entered. As the visitation went on, less entries were made. This information has been omitted since they are not complete.
