Two books were used for the 1840 and 1850 visitations by two different compilier.
The first complier used the left side of the pages for the 1840 Book 1 for the visitations except
for a few pages where he continued his notations on the right side. The handwriting
is the same on these pages.
The second complier used the right hand pages of Book 1 for the 1850 visitation. The first
date noted opposite page 1 is "Nov 20th 1850. He continued using the right hand pages
throughout his visitation. However, the first compilier who did the 1840 Book 1 visitation,
used a few of the right hand pages for the visitation for 1840. In the 1850 visitation
five dates are noted: 20 November 1850, 26 November 1850, 4 December 1850 and 26 December 1850
Five townlands are also listed: Gortnamoya, Tamey More, Metichin, Caa and Killy Kergin. These
townlands are in the Parish of Errigale. Even numbered pages of this book are for the
1850 visitation. The 1850 visitation covers only a few townlands and families.
I have chosen to divided the 1840 visitation from the 1850 visitation. Most of the page numbers
for the 1840 visitation in Book 1 will have odd numbers. I have kept the numbers assigned to families
by Richard Torrens. When he did the 1850 visitation he combined them into one text
where I decided to do them separately They is no right way, only a matter of preference.
Richard Torrens assigned family numbers. There is a skip in numbers for this visitation
as Richard combined all pages in Book.
Family numbers nor page numbers do not appear in the original manuscript. Families which appear on the
left hand pages have been assigned F and those appear on the right hand pages have been
assigned X.
Names that are not clear are enclosed with a parentheis.
Sample pages of selected pages can be seen in Book One. X numbers have
been assigned to the even pages except for a few pages that continued
the 1840 visitation.
Families from the 1850 visition have been cross referenced to the 1840 Book 2 visitation
for clarifation.
