How to have a japanese tea.

The guests wash their hands and rinse their mouths lightly before entering the tearoom.

The guests creep into the tearoom through a small entrance called "nijiriguchi" in japanese.      

Then care for your forehead to the small lower door.

Each guest kneels in front of the alcove (called "tokonoma") to admire the hanging scroll.      

Japanese house has the alcove "tokonoma" with the picture called "kakejyuku" , usually.

When the guests are seated , a cake bowl is brought out by the hostess.      

The cake is sweet , probably. It is an another great pleasure at the tea ceremony.

When the cake tray is passed , each guest bows in apology to the next person for helping herself first.      

About there you cannot stand up ; your legs go to sleep.

The hostess puts the bowl of tea that is now ready to drink before the guest.

The guest raises the bowl and bows slightly.

The guest turns the bowl about twice and a half.      

Do not turns over twice and a half , please. 

sips the tea
The guest sips the tea , trying to make as much noise as possible. 
appreciates its beauty
The guest examines the bowl carefully and appreciates its beauty. 
returns the bowl
The guest returns the empty bowl to the hostess.

1 Do you use any special tea for the tea ceremony?  Yes , we use a fine powder of choice green tea for the tea ceremony. 
2 How old is the custom of drinking tea?  It dates back to 729 A.D. , when the Emperor Shomu Tenoh invited one hundred Buddhist monks to drink tea in his palace. 
3 What am I expected to wear at the tea ceremony ?  Always clothes of quite colors are preferred , since simplicity and calmness are essential at the tea ceremony. 
4 What is the difference between the thin tea and the thick tea ?  The thin tea , the foamy tea brew , is thinner than the thick tea , the pasty tea. 
5 What does the teahouse consist of ?  It consists of a tearoom called "sukiya" , an anteroom called "mizuya" , and a pavillion called "machiya" .
