Nicole and I went to the 18th Annual Quechee Balloon Festival in Quechee, Vermont on June 14th and June 15th. We have been going for several years now. The balloons typically make their ascentions on Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night, and Sunday morning...weather providing. We went to the festival on Saturday night, but the balloons were unable to lift off due to high winds. Therefore, we had to get up bright and early on Sunday morning to see the balloons lift off at 6:00 a.m. It turned out to be a bright, crisp morning...all be it a little chilly. When we left our house, it was 36 degrees. Along with the balloons, the festival also has many craft vendors, live bands, and plenty of good food. The highlight of the festival is always the blowing up and the lifting off of the balloons. This year there were approximately 20 balloons that participated. Nicole and I always enjoy going to the festival. There are always some balloons which we have never seen before. Sometimes the balloons, after lifting off, will drift down and touch the nearby river. This was the first year that we have ever gone to see the balloons lift off in the morning. It was definately worth getting up early for. |
