We, my daughter and I have been in rescue for 2 1/2 years. We rescue Pugs and Boston Terriers, also a few French Bulldogs. We do keep files of other "wants" and rescues, in case we run across some other breed in our travels. We are members of the Western Wa. Boston Terrier Club and the Puget Sound Pug Club. We have no interest in showing or breeding but belonging to a breed club "validates" you. Also breed clubs and organizations like Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue can sometimes help financially-also a good source of breed contacts.
1) The girl in the red sweater is my daughter, Maya. She is holding Cider, who was brought to the vet`s to be put down. He talked the owner into releasing her for adoption. She was 8 years old at the time, and no one wanted a dog "that old". We kept her, she is almost 10, and frisks around like a young dog! 2) The two children with the little Boston live in Olympia. They waited almost a year to get a Boston. This dog had had litter after litter. The breeder released her to me, and she was adopted in Nov., `97. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with mast cell cancer recently. Sandy, Rusty, and Katy are doing a great job with her, and are coping as best as they can. My heart goes out to them. 3) The little white-faced Boston sitting on the older man’s lap came to us a few weeks ago. She is almost three, and had gone through 5 sets of owners. The reasons for giving her away included- she’s urinated on the bed while I’m gone and she’s all alone (this was not a housebreaking issue), she’s too energetic, to we’re getting a divorce and are going to put her down. The gentleman in the picture is my father-in-law. He and his wife are Jasmine’s sixth and LAST home. 4) The woman with dark hair is me (cringe) covered with our dogs. The fawn pug in the back has heart and kidney problems, and used to be "stored"in a crate for up to 20 (!!!!!!) hours a day. The little Boston by my face is Tinka. The small black pug is Abby, the big black pug is Pugsley, who "sings" at pug gatherings, and the big Boston is our sweet Cider. Three of these are rescue dogs that have stayed. The two little dogs have had medical problems. 5 and 6) These last 2 pictures are of the rescue bostons. The male is more chocolate colored than the female. Now remember, this is a week after they were brought in! In one picture especially you can see how thin he still is. He is gaining weight, though. The heavy encrustation around his eyes are gone His ears still need a lot of work- very tattered and lots of ear mites. The female has more of a blaze face. She can still use some weight, but looks better than the male. These dogs are going to be a challenge to find a home for. They’ve never been in the house, living their lives totally OUTSIDE!!!!! They’ll have to be treated just like puppies (blank slate). But the personalities, ohhhhh. He is so sweet- quite the cuddler, she is bouncy loves attention, and wants to please. What sweet pups. .
