Holliday in nomination for Governor of Va., before the Democratic Convention of 1877, and was a member of the board of visitors to the university of Va. in1880. Judge Laycame to Florida to spend winters as early as 1874 due to failing health. During the civil War, he made one or more trips to Florida. It si believed that he chose Lake Pabnasoffkee because he enjoyed fishingand hecould farm as well.

Leslieand Harold lived in Detroit, Mi. until he retired, then moved to Florida. Leslie lived to be 97 years old, an age beyond all other Lay members. Leslie recalled from her early childhood that every sunday morning the family had a prayer sevice in the livingroom. If they had guest, they were included too. She remembers each one kneeling at his or her chair. Afterwaeds her father always had candy treats for the children.
