Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of the year! But for me, it's also a very sad time. November 23rd, 1983, my Mother went to live with Our Lord. I usually have a pretty bad memory, but I remember that day like it was yesterday. My Mother and I (I was 12 years old at the time and my Mother was 41) were taking a turkey to my Aunt Betty's house because we had two and didn't need them both. We only lived a few blocks away, but that turkey was pretty heavy, so we decided we'd take turns carrying it. We were standing on the corner waiting to cross the street to my Aunt's house; I was carrying the turkey. Two cars collided, one had ran a stop sign, one of them hit Mama. She was knocked back against a concrete slab, I was standing only a foot away from her; if only I could've reacted and pulled her from harm's way, she may be here with me today. It put me in shock when it happened, when I snapped out of it, I turned and saw Mama lying there on the ground. Screaming and crying, I dropped the turkey and ran across the street to Aunt Betty's. I've heard she died instantly, in the ambulance or at the hospital. For her sake, I hope and pray that God took her quickly. My mother was a very caring person, she was always there for me when I needed her. Whenever 'clumsy' me got hurt, she was there to kiss it and make it better! She loved to spoil me, I was the only girl (the youngest, too). I have 2 brothers living (Mark & Jeff) and 2 brothers (Brian & Kevin) who have went on to be with Mama and Our Lord. I remember Mama telling me about when I was born, she said the doctor told her it was a girl and she didn't believe him. She made him bring me right to her face so she could see for herself that I was a girl! I remember a time when my brother Jeff & I wanted to go to a haunted house, (or maybe I wanted to go and Mama wanted Jeff to go with me) Mama took us and we had to stand in line for 2 hours! Mama stayed in the car while we waited, she was asleep when we came out. She had not one harsh word to say for having to wait so long. She was a lot more patient than I am!! I also remember my brother Mark bringing over a 1 pound bag of M & M's, quite often, and both of us would sit and eat the whole bag! I know those things put a few pounds on me but Mama didn't care, she loved me just the same! Well, Mama, that's my dedication to you...I know there's so much I didn't cover but I think I did pretty good. I just want to let as many people as I can know how wonderful you were, and you still are...cause as long as you're in my heart you're still alive and you always will be!! I have written a short poem for you....I hope you like it.
So loving and so caring
Mama, I know one day we will be together once again, FOREVER!!
