PREVIOUS MEETINGS

August 6th: Notes by Rose Haberkorn

Diane Larson of Mill House presented to the group many new and interesting books, fabrics, fabric packs, Fall and holiday fabrics, etc. Guild members received double punches for their purchases that night. Twenty three guild members were in attendance.

September 10th program will be given by Sue Vollbrecht. Guild members requested that she explain the different types of long arm & short arm quilting machines. Being a professional in the field, Sue can provide us with the many pros and cons of different types of machines. Also what type of learning curve could be expected if you’ve never before used a quilting machine.

Sharon reported the guild has $906.08 in the checkbook.

Diane’s presentation was so fast I had trouble taking notes. Here’s what I have. -New very large wedge ruler. Diane showed a Christmas tree skirt she made and explained how you use the wedge ruler. She also mentioned that the ruler could be used to make a large medallion for a quilt top. First stratas of ten strips are make with the strips of various lengths are made. Diane recommended that a couple of the strips be wider (3” to 4”), so the eye has a place to rest. Wedge lengths could be up to 25 inches or could be cut much smaller. This Christmas tree skirt is being offered at Mill House in September. -2 different advent calendars -A Sharlyn Ann Design Wall -Jelly Rolls – two and a half inch stripes, patterns becoming available for them. Diane thought these may replace charm packs. -Ideas for decorating towels -Christmas sets of fabrics -Cosy Quilted Christmas by Kim has sports Santas. -Mill House plans to stock more technique books on color design. -Water color print with cute saying available at store. -Christmas stocking patterns -Comfort and Joy book by Mary Hickie. -Thimbleberries kits in stock – Christmas Street -Halloween fabrics by Moda -Happy Hours book by Teri Atkinson Designs -Needle felting books and felt available. -Young at Heart book by Julie Popa has happy & cheerful designs -Minkee fabric – Mill House sells in one and a half yard cuts – perfect for the kids quilt backs. Recommend use of spray adhesive so fabrics don’t slip. Sharon Miller uses flannel batting when she uses Minkee fabric.

Show & Tell Four elder care quilts by Eileen Miller Sharyn Streicher civil war era quilt she made from a kit from Spring Green It was mentioned the Middleton Fire Dept accepts fabrics to be used for Project Linus quilts.

The following is from "Quilters Newsletter," October, 2007, page 90:

New Sizes for Bed Quilts If you're making a quilt for a bed with one of the new thicker mattresses, you'll need to make it wider and longer so it will drape nicely. Make the comforter to go with a bedskirt and pillow shams; the bedspread includes a 12" pillow tuck and a 21" drop on the sides and foot.
