My name is Kevin Leroy Benner; and Charles Frank Benner (known as Frank Benner) was my grandfather. He lived in Baltimore during his adult life, but was originally from southern Pennsylvania. I do not know his parents name, but I do know that his family were bakers and his mother was of French extraction. His wife's name was Martha Mary Tieppermann (later spelled Tiepermann) and was born in Magdeburg, Germany in 1874 or 1865. She died at the age of 85 in 1960.
Frank died in 1938 at the age of 64. They had ten children. My father's name was Irvin Leroy Benner. He was named after his mother's brother, Irvin Leroy Tieppermann. Irvin Tiepermann was a prize fighter in the early part of the 20th century, and fought under the name Joe Tipman. He later legally changed his name to Joe Tipman. His claim to fame was that he knocked out Terrible Terry McGovern in an exhibition fight when Joe was only fifteen. I have many pictures (100's) of Joe and many famous athletes and political figures.
I know nothing about genealogy, but would like to find out what I can about my family in Pennsylvania. At this time only one of Frank & Martha's children is still alive. Her name is Elizabeth Leddon. I am in contact with her and will be sitting down and talking with her this summer. At that time I will try to get what I can from her.

I spoke to my aunt on the phone and consequently got some new information. She went on to explain that our family never named a child with the exact name of a living person. My grandfather's real name was Charles Frank Benner and was known as Frank. My aunt also went on to explain that her mother's family changed the spelling on their family name to Tiepermann. They dropped the second "P".
My aunt gave me some birth and death years for her family also. Charles Frank was born in 1873 and died in 1937. Martha Mary (his wife) was born in 1875 and died in 1960. They had ten children. Their names, birth, and death dates are as follows:

Benner Born 1908 Died 1984 Married Harry Schnappinger-No Children Frank E. Benner Born 1903 Died 1990 (Twice Married.one child Donna Benner-Dixon. She has two children. Irvin L. Benner Born 1907 Died 1972 (Married Clara Fisher, 4 Children-Irvin L. , Helen V. , Charles F., Kevin L.. Irvin L. jr. died of cancer at age 5.Helen V. never married and lives in Baltimore next to where our grandparents lived. Charles F. married Jeannine ? and has 6 children and many grandchildren. He lives in Pasadena , Maryland. I (Kevin L.) am married to Catherine V. Hagner. We have 4 children that are my step children. They are Anthony M. Albi , Dennis J. Hartmann, Melissa D. Hartmann-Newton, and Brian C. Hartmann. Vernon M. Benner Born 12/30/05 Died 10/30/68. He was widowed in his forties and had four children. Verna (No Children) , Vernon M. Died at around age 17 , Beverly Benner-Shipley (5 or 6 children) , and Leona Benner-Rausch (2 Children) Harry D. Born 1910 Died 1969. Married Constance Fisher (my mother's sister). One child Constance Benner-Corpus. She has 6 children. Elizabeth Bener-Leddon Married Benjamin Leddon and has one child Darryl (Female) who has two daughters.
