Cumberland Island and Walt Disney World

February-March 1999

Kyle's sister Carrie married Peter Sawyer in late February on Cumberland Island, a barrier island between Georgia and Florida. The wedding--really more of a multi-day progressive celebration--was unique, beautiful, and moving, and afforded a great chance to visit with family and friends. The ceremony was as special and one-of-a-kind as the celebrants, with lots of music and featuring very personal vows. Chloe was a flower girl, a role she discharged with great pride and joy. Celeste was named "Child of Honor", a title she seemed to relish, though she did decide to talk through much of the ceremony. Cumberland Island, a national seashore preserve, is a compelling place, with beaches of fine sand dunes, noble old oaks, and wild horses and armadilloes running about.

Taking advantage of Cumberland Island's close proximity to Orlando, we spent the week after the wedding at Walt Disney World. The girls had a wonderful time, and we all enjoyed the visit even more than our last one. Highlights included our lagoon-front room at the Polynesian Resort, character breakfasts, and the new Animal Kingdom.
