In April, 2000, we spent a weekend with Grandma Alice driving down California's famous Highway One along the Central Coast. We visited Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, and the Ventana Wilderness. This was a glorious time of year to go, since it was warm but not hot, and the hills were green from the recent rains and covered with flowers. We did get some rain on the second day, but for the most part it was a delightful visit. High points included exploring the new interactive kids' exhibit called Splash Zone at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, making s'mores in our cottage fireplace, and dining at Pacific's Edge restaurant with Carrie and Peter joining us.
In July, 2000, we enjoyed a similar itinerary, this time joined by Grandma Mary and Grandpa John.
