4 - Joseph Fordham born circa 1645 probably in Southampton, New York, although one source suggests that he could have been born in Stamford, Connecticut. He married Mary Clark circa 1661 in Southampton.
Their children were Mary b: 1666, d: April 20, 1687; Joseph (further details to follow) Phebe b: circa 1672; Nathan b: circa 1672; Hannah b: circa 1676; Elizabeth b circa 1678; Pelletiah b circa 1680; Allethea b: circa 1682 & Charles b: circa 1685.
Joseph was listed as a townsman of Southampton in 1666; was a patentee of the town under the Andros patent of November 1, 1676; and was listed as Lieutenant Fordham in a schedule of land rights, June 25, 1679.
In 1680 he drew for lots #7 and #15 in Hog Neck. On September 7, 1680 he was granted to enjoy land and a watering place, on condition he make a good and sufficient gate for creatures to water in hard times. He was allowed to set up a warehouse at the North Sea (Peconic Bay) on April 2, 1683 at the landing place, with the privilege of as much land as would be necessary on which to place the warehouse.
In the rate list of 1686 he was shown as Captain Joseph Fordham. Joseph Fordham died September 7, 1688, and was buried at Southampton. His will, dated August 28, 1688, was proved at a Court of Sessions held at Southold, New York on October 16 & 17, 1688.
