(1)-- William of Sacomb (FORDHAM) Born circa 1520 - 1525 in Kelshall, Hertfordshire England. Died before March 27 1581. The records indicate that his occupation was a Husbandman (a Farmer).
Birth & Death: History of colonial families of Long Island, by Herbert Seversmith states - William Fordham was born about 1520-1525, and perhaps at Kelshall, Hertfordshire England.
He was listed on the subsidy rolls for 1545 as resident of Sacombe, in the Hundred of Broadwater and Half Hundred of Hitchin, and was listed for five shillings.
The will of his son William Fordham junior, dated 27 March 1581, states that his father was then deceased; William Fordham had died, therefore, after 1565 and before 1581. He was presumably buried in Sacombe. He also states that the name of his wife is not found.
His Sacombe lands were taken over by his son Phillip and are first mentioned in the parish accounts of 1613 on a rate for the poor. One researcher has claimed that William Fordham's parents were Richard Fordham and Agnes Stoughton, but as of this time I have not found the source to back up this information. Another source has said the William is a possible son of William Fordham of Chisball,Essex England. He was the father of Joan (born circa 1553), Margaret (born circa 1556), Agnes (born circa 1560), Phillip (born circa 1565).
