CHA
The Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education

CHA - The Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education is an international non-profit membership
association, dedicated to improving the safety and quality of group riding programs since 1967. To further
these objectives, CHA offers a four level horsemanship program specifically designed for group riding,
including horsemanship manuals, and awards for each Level in English, Western and Trail riding. CHA
publishes standards for safe operation of riding programs and works closely with the American Camping
Association, North American Riding for the handicapped association, Girl Scouts, YMCA, Christian
Camping International, 4H, colleges and other organizations that offer horseback riding in their programs.

Through the CHA Instructor Certification Clinic Program, CHA conducts clinics to certify instructors in
English, Western, Trail, and riding for the disables at four levels. CHA certified instructors can be found in
at least 14 countries throughout the world. CHA is vitally interested in reducing the number of horse
related accidents and improving the insurance and liability picture for group riding programs.

The primary focus of the CHA is SAFETY. Good horse management, effective programming and creative
teaching methods are also stressed. CHA does not dictate what is to be taught to the methods used to teach
it. CHA encourages any form of instruction that is safe, effective and fun. CHA strives to provide
education, basic standards and help to riding programs and instructors who want to improve their programs
or to start a new one.
