Comments: This morning, I was informed by a City of Vanier bylaw officer that the woman in charge of animal control for the new city of Ottawa is very much anti-Pitbulls and will push through (or try to) a city-wide ban on the breed. Any owners out there... please contact me to band together against this backwards approach to dealing with problematic owners and ignorance about the breed. Pits are excellent, level-headed, and highly trainable dogs. If forced to give away our dogs, we loose control over whether or not they'll be properly looked after... perhaps leading to the very problems they are trying to prevent. The other alternative is to have our pets killed when/if the law is enacted. Please add your comments. There are too many good pitbulls and too many good owners to let this sort of ignorance prevail. Lets all bring our well-behaved dogs down to city hall to prove that they are great dogs (I know poodles that I wouldn't have around children, but they, apparently, are okay). I do not believe the new law will be based on popular reality. Rather it will be based on a few people's (politicians) fears, and will not effectively deal with the problem - pitbull abuse or owners who train the dogs to be a weapon. I do believe that we are faced with the death of an excellent breed if we do nothing. Stand up for your pup and help us sort out pitbull problems using reality-based solutions... not fear-mongering and negative assumptions. Thank you, Gina Diva's Owner dowzie@hotmail.com
