What is the "SAVE" fund?

The S.A.V.E. fund was started by staff for animals entering the shelter that needed additional medical work done that the shelter would not normaly be able to afford.

What is it for?

This fund coveres a wide range of medical needs. It's for any animals that would be adoptable but needs some type of extra medical work done before they cam go for adoptions. Many times these animals are fostered pre/post surgery.
Some examples of the types of things the fund covers are:
  • bloodwork and/or urinalizes
  • dential extraction for broken or rotten teeth that are causing problems
  • wound repair (stickes)
  • x-rays and/or visit to specialized vet
  • minor or major eye surgery (ie: Cherry eye repair, eye removel if infected)
  • major surgeries (ie: fixing broken bones)
  • amputation
    Some recent examples are (all of these animals where fostered till well and have since been adopted into loveing homes):
  • Juno Rottweiler mix arrived who had been hit by a car and had a broken leg, she needed x-rays and then surgery to fix her leg.
  • Freddie DLH grey tabby arrived with a seriously infected eye which had to be removed in order to save his life, he needed to go to a specailty vet to have his surgery.
  • Herminonee older toy poodle arrived in bad shape, needed x-rays, dential surgery. After dential work and x-rays where done, was discovered to not need as much medical work as originaly though.
  • Libby DSH calico arrived with injured knee and required many x-rays and surgery on her knee so she was able to walk without pain.
  • Honey beagle mix arrived with mammary lump which needed to be removed and tested to make sure it was not cancer, also had dential surgery.
  • Muffin older DSH torti arrived with bad teeth and needed some extracted.
  • Hola Spanial mix, belived to have been thrown off a bridge, required x-rays, specialty vet visit and hip surgery
  • Cinder DSH smoke tabby arrived seriosly frostbiten, had to have dead part of tail amputated

    Cat Rescue FUND

    There is also a special section set aside specificaly for cat that are in the "rescue" program. This is for cats that stay in their foster home till they find a home of thier own as they aren't able to go up for adoption at the shelter for on reason or another, or for older cats that needs a little medical work before they can go up in adoptions.
    Normaly the funds in the rescue section are used for the following:
  • bloodwork and/or urinalizes
  • additional lab tests to determine health of cat (ie: enzyme test to rule out digestive problem)
  • dential extraction for broken or rotten teeth that are causing problems
  • X-rays
    but can include any number of medical needs the cat might have.
