I would like to announce the revision of THE HOLLY TREE, now named THE HOLLY TREE 2000, published on November 1, 2000. It is a family book about the descendants of Vincent Hollingsworth of Wilkes/Ashe County, NC of the late 1700s and early 1800s. The children of Vincent traveled to Clay County, KY spending many years there before spreading out to other areas of the country. There are descendants in Clay County today. I am looking for anytype of information I can obtain on The Cottongim family. Until their move to Clay County the name was Cottingham. I am a member of the Clay County Historical Society and have always been extremely interested in history. If you have people or information that I can obtain I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone with information. I am also very concerned about locating the burial place of my great grandfather Pierce or piercy Cottongim. I visited a cemetary at the edge of Clay and Laurel a few years ago it was in terriable shape. I had been told and later changed this was where y great grandparents were buried. My great grandmother was Margaret Stivers daughter of George Stivers. In this cemetary was located Rachel Martin wife of Dan Martin who may have been a sister to my grandfather. Cattle had been wallowing there and the stones where broken. This was on land owned by a Philpot I was told. I wonder if any effort has been made to restore or map this cemetary? Appreciate any info. anyone can give. Would be glad for letter or telephone or E.Mail to this inquiry. Would pay cost.
