We Are United

~ONE~

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.

As we carried each other down
the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.

As the firefighters and police officers
fought their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.

As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.

As we whispered or shouted
words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.

As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.

As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.

As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.

As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes,
We become one people.

We are:
ONE COLOR
ONE CLASS
ONE GENERATION
ONE GENDER
ONE FAITH
ONE LANGUAGE
ONE BODY
ONE FAMILY
ONE SOUL
ONE PEOPLE

We Are
THE POWER OF ONE.
WE ARE UNITED.
WE ARE AMERICA.

~AMERICAN SOIL ~

As I stand upon our American soil,
the land of freedom beneath my feet.
Watching our brothers and sisters unite,
in the name of honor we all seek.

Taking our dreams one step beyond,
to the corners of such deepest fears.
As we find ourselves draped in black,
saluting our country with mournful tears.

Still reaching for that brilliant light,
amazing victory we will place in His hand.
flickering of a candle in the darkest hour.
against unforeseen things we never planned.

God bless you and hold on,
should you be wondering about tomorrow.
For there is a hero in everyone's heart,
even in our nation's time of sorrow.

Carrying our flag where it has never been,
a memory etched in twisted debris and stone.
Knowing we will always persevere with pride,
those that gave their life, never walked alone.

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife ...
I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me;
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea;
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say ...
