Notes for Dominique (Dominic) Anthony Schritz:

When Henri's wife died, Father Philip told his brother (Dominic) to come to the USA. So like thousands of others, Dominic came to New York from Luxembourg and settled in Avon, Ohio. He sought a better life for himself and a family in the land of great opportunity. He immediately obtained work at the American Steel & Wire Co. in Cleveland, OH in the Fine Wire Department - coiled steel (extrusion) part. He lived in Avon, OH while working and also had a truck fram where he raised fruit and vegetables.

Fr. Philip married Dominic and Katherine. Katherine did not work outside the home. His oldest daughter died during the Flu epidemic in 1919 who at that time worked as a Clerk in the R.R. Marie was a secretary and office manager for the Robert Dohaney Insurance Company. Agnes was Postmaster of Olmsted Falls Post Office. After Connie's family was grown, she became Security Officer for the Higbee Company Department Store. Marguerite became a clerk at the Post Office after her family had grown. Eventually Dominic bought an Automobile Agency in Olmsted Falls where his two sons John and Henry worked. They were all busy people.

Dominic lost his accent - His daughter Connie didn't realize he was foreign born til later on. His wife taught him correct english. He helped his nephew Anton (Tony Schritz) learn english when he came over from Luxembourg. Connie used to giggle at Anton's pronunciation - kanife knife. Dominic had 60 acre farm to help out on. Dominic worked in the steel mills, then farmed 11 years, then returned to work at the steel mills. He had special skill. Wire drawing - finest wire like hair. Wire had to run thru a liquid. The smell was horrible. 1
