eacon Nathan4 Bassett (Nathan3), born in Chatham in 1713, died there 2 Dec. 1800, aged 87.

He married in Harwich, 2 Jan. 1734/5, Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Eleazer and Martha (Young) Rogers of Eastham (May. Desc., vol. 13, p. 148; The Register, vol. 121, p. 312). She died 6 Oct. 1800, aged 85. Elizabeth is a great granddaughter of Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower.

Nathan Bassett was trusted by his fellow townsmen and held public office frequently. He served as a selectman of Chatham from 1762 to 1768 and was town clerk and town treasurer for fourteen years, from 1769 to 1783. In 1774 when a Committee of Correspondence for Barnstable County was formed in response to a letter from the Boston Committee, Deacon Nathan Bassett was chosen as one of the two representatives for Chatham.
