athaniel5 Bassett (Nathaniel4, Nathan3)
was born in Chatham 20 March 1755; he died in Harwich 4 Jan. 1832.
He married first, in Harwich, 29 Jan. 1772, Mercy Phillips,
daughter of Joseph and Mary Phillips of Harwich. She died 14
March 1794.
He married secondly, in Harwich, 26 July 1795, Ruth Paine,
daughter of Ebenezer and Thankful Paine. She died in childbirth 6
Feb. 1800.
He married thirdly, in Harwich, 23 Feb. 1804, Anna5
Nickerson, daughter of Samuel and Anna (Nickerson) Nickerson, the
widow of Samuel Davis.
Nathaniel Bassett was a private in Elijah Small's company from
Harwich during the alarm of September, 1778 [cf. Massachusetts
Soldiers and Sailors, vol. 1, p. 761]. He was a carpenter;
according to Josiah Paine, he was "a man of irritable
disposition."
