Muston, Dorset, England is the ancestral seat of the Churchill family according to Burke’s Family Index (page 30). Further citations appear in Burke’s "Dormant & Extinct Peerages", LG1969 and DFUSA. Current maps of Dorset do not list Muston. 16th Century maps do show it however.

A Winston Churchill was born in Muston in 1620. He was a noble who supported the cause of King Charles I during the English Civil War. Winston lost most of his holding during the Puritan government of Oliver Cromwell. King Charles II gave his son John Churchill (1650-1722) a title and he eventually became the Duke of Marlborough. Not only one of the greatest generals of his time, he was also the ancestor of Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965).

It would seem improbable that two Churchill families would come from the same town (Muston, Dorset) and not be related through descent from a common ancestor. [SCHURCHL.GED]
