avid I. CRANDALL's first memory of his father was his return from the War Of The Rebellion on crutches. He received a miniball through the leg.
He sent for his son, David, before he died and asked him to pray with him. He had been a "hard man". David told me that he had never had ice cream as a child, only one pair of shoes a year, and once when he hung up his stocking at Christmas, his father put a lump of coal in it.
