ffidavit of Elizabeth Ewar, Recorder, from Quaker Records Feb 11, 1918:

Edward Dillingham, son of Henry and Hannah Dillingham Born 21st of 2nd month, 1665. From the Town of Sandwich Affidavit of S E Silsby, Curator, from Records of Old Burying Ground, dated Sandwich, Jan’y 29th, 1918. Mr. John Dillingham, died Oct 27, 1825, aged 90 years Mr. Simeon Dillingham, died Apr 21, 1773, 73rd year. Mr. Edward Dillingham, died Mar 28, 1739, 72d year Mrs Sarah Dillingham, died Dec 27, 1810, 75th year From the Town of Sandwich (with the above affidavit) Edward Dillingham admitted to the First Parish Church July 31, 1737. Notes by FWD or Dean Dudley, from Freeman’s Cape Cod Families Vol. 11, pg 476 Edward Dillingham son of Henry and Hannah Perry Dillingham died March 29, 1789 Married Sept 26, 1695 Abigail Nye and had:

  1. Hannah, b Jul 12, 1696
  2. Abigail, b Jul 26, 1695 [sic, but another source gives 1697]
  3. Simeon, b Sep 24, 1700 [and he is our ancestor. ED]
  4. Edward, b Mar 12, 1704
  5. Mary, b Oct 22, 1705
  6. Experience, b Mar 9, 1708
  7. John, b Nov 10, 1710 [see comment below]
  8. Deborah, b Jun 7, 1746

In the above list, John is underlined and a note of his marriage into the Bourne family is given. Presumably FWD or Dudley supposed at the time that John of this generation was our ancestor, but this was wrong. Simeon married Elizabeth Bourne, and it was John son of Simeon who was our ancestor. Letter from Charles Dillingham to Dean Dudley, dated Sandwich 1.10.95 This letter is in "Genealogy of the Dillingham Family" by Dean Dudley. "In regard to John Dillingham about whom you ask information I cannot give it with any certainty. The first John was son of Edward you know of course who settled in Hanover (?). Edward2 son of Henry who married Abigail Nye (whose will I have) mentions three sons Simeon, Edward and John. My line is from Simeon. Edward married in Sandwich and had 5 sons, one John. I have no record of him. My great grandfather son of Simeon was John died 1825 age 91. I remember a John who lived on the old homestead near the Cong. Church he was called ‘John on the Hill’ to distinguish him from my great grandfather. Neither of these were Quakers." Edward the son of Edward2 had 5 sons (mentioned above) one of whom was Ignatius born 1732 went to Falmouth married Deborah Gifford. Did he have a son Broderick or Braddock who died in a British prison in 1781? If not, whose son was Broderick or Braddock? A typewritten note, fragmentary and without attribution, gives a history of Edward: Lived in Sandwich. Died March 29,1739. (In both Falmouth and Sandwich records.) [An added pencil note says "b.Feb 21,1665"] 1691, admitted townsman in Sandwich. 1691, took inventory of estate of John Briggs 1702, June 25, enumerated as one of Freemen in Sandwich. 1730, March, "Sen" Head of family in Sandwich 1739, March 29, Mr. Edward Dillingham 1704 Selectman in Sandwich ten years. 1705 Agent in Sandwich to run town line. Married Abigail Nye September 26,1695, by Justice Skiffe. She was probably the daughter of John Nye of Sandwich, Conn [surely an error] and born in 1678. Alexander pg 32. [DILLIN.GED]
