he son of a Norman noble, who after
ravaging northern France from 876 was invested with the Duchy of
Normandy, as fief of the Crown from Charles III "The Simple"
King of France conditional on his baptism as a Christian. He was
baptized in the name of Robert. He abdicated in 927 and was
