ecorded in a Bible that once belonged to Allen Gifford, the grandson of Benjamin Gifford, there is a record of his family’s history. In the Bible, he mentions the death of his grandfather: "My grandfather, Benjamin Gifford, was killed when a span of horses ran away when harnessed to a sleigh that he was driving. They became unmanagable and hit a stump standing beside the road which threw him with such force against the foreboard of the sleigh-box that it broke his breast bone. He lived but a few days and died. The accident happened in the month of March 1762 previous to my father being born. His brother-in-law, Elisha Wing, was in the sleigh with him and escaped unhurt. After my grandfather was killed, my grandmother married a man whose name was Nathan Hiller as a second husband by whom she had two sons and three daughters." [STACYN.GED]
