ohn4 Landers (John3, John2, Thomas1), born 12 May 1724, was baptized 8 May 1738 (Sandwich 1st Church Records). No record of his death or probate of his estate has come to light.
He married 26 Jun 1746 Abigail4 Gifford (Sandwich Town Records), daughter of Josiah3 and Mercy (Chadwick) Gifford of Sandwich, b. there 8 Oct 1718, died, perhaps ca. 1811/12 (if the Gifford family tradition is correct that this Abigail (Gifford) Landers and her two sisters each died in her 93rd year).
John3 Landers died 4 Mar 1737/8 when this boy was not quite 14 years old. His father gave him all the Sandwich real estate, which presumably came into his hands when he reached his majority in May 1745. John3 Landers inherited most of his father's property, and probably much of that which had belonged to the bachelor brother, Richard3 Landers. Therefore, John4 Landers must have been possessed of a comfortable estate; it seems odd that the probate records reveal nothing of him. Probably this is another instance where the lands were distributed by deed and agreement prior to death; or, possibly, this John Landers disposed of his property and went to live with his sons in Maine.
