Richard5 Landers (Savery4, Recompense3, Richard2, Thomas1), born about 1770, died after 8 Sept. 1817 when he sold land in Falmouth. [When he is listed under the children of Savory, earlier in this article, his birthdate is given as "say 1755". This seems more likely; also, the d.o.b. of his wife is suspect. jl]

He married (int. 6 Dec. 1793) Jemima6 Swift, daughter of Zebulon5 Swift (Benjamin4, William3-2-1) by his wife Rebecca Wing, born about 1770, living in 1817 when she quitclaimed dower rights to Falmouth land. She was thus a niece of Elizabeth5 Swift who married Reuben4 Landers (above) and Hannah5 (Swift) Davis whose daughter Elizabeth Davis married John4 Landers (above).

By a deed of 9 May 1794 Richard Landers of Falmouth, yeoman, bought land from John4 Landers at the lower end of Sapaquet Neck in Falmouth (Falmouth Town Deeds, 1:327). By a deed dated 3 Aug. 1797 he bought more land at Sapaquet Neck from the same John Landers (ibid.).

As we have seen, the will of Savory4 Landers, dated at Falmouth 13 May 1803, proved in 1811, gives: "To my son Richard Landers all my lands, meadows, buildings", etc., and named him sole executor. By a deed of 17 July 1817 Richard Landers sold Falmouth land for $200 to Abiel Eldred (Falmouth Town Deeds, 1:120-1). By a deed dated 8 Sept. 1817 he sold for $400 to Seth Hamlin, property in Falmouth "formerly belonging to Shubal Davis, Deceased" which was set off to Davis’ widow, Joanna, as her dower1 (ibid., 1:288). In both these deeds Richard’s wife, Jemima Landers, released her dower rights.

Children (Falmouth Town Records, 2:172).

  1. In view of the imperfect state of the records of this period it may be useful to note here that this evidently was Joanna5 (Jenkins) Davis, daughter of Joshua4 and Hannah (Handy) Jenkins, b. Falmouth 1 Dec. 1741; mar. 10 Aug. 1762 Shubael5 Davis (Shubael4, John3, John2, Dolar1). We have not found record of their children, but it may be that the Love Davis who mar. (1) Prince Landers, and (2) Levi Landers, was a child of this couple.
