He moved to Cobourg in 1815 after the death of his first wife. He married four more times, sired 11 children, and found time to serve as a Major, a member of the Legislative Council, and was a Senator of Canada (1871-76). Ebenezer built the imposing red brick house at 420 Division Street, as well as a mill, a pork-packing plant, and a large general store.
