Joan, "The Fair Maid of Kent" (1328-85), was the daughter of Edmund of Woodstock, son of Edward I. She appears to have formed a liaison with the Earl of Salisbury, and then to have married Sir Thomas Holland. She became Countess of Kent (1352), and on Holland’s death, married the Black Prince (1361), and became the mother of Richard II. [World Wide Illustrated Encyclopedia, 1935]
