avid II (1324-71), king of Scotland, succeeded his father, Robert Bruce, in 1329. After the English victory at Halidon Hill in 1333 he was sent to France (1334), where he remained till 1341. In 1346 he invaded England, but was disastrously defeated at Neville’s Cross and taken prisoner. [World Wide Illustrated Encyclopedia, 1935]
