- Resided in Grand Isle County, Vermont per 1790, 1810,
1830, and 1840 Census.
- Rev. War Pension No. S16015. Received an annual pension
of $41.21.
- 1759-1776: It is assumed Gardner spent his boyhood in
Washington Co. Rhode Island removing to Massachusetts
before the age of 17, from where he served during the
Revolutionary War.
- Stated in his pension: "He was a substitute for his
father, to serve his term in the Continental Army,
entering from the town of Hardwick, MA where he resided."
- "My next term of service was performed under Lt.
Wheeler of New Britian, in the state of New York, at
which place I resided. A substitute for Benjamin Wait, my
uncle, who was drafted into Service, last day of Aug 1781."
