1. Resided in Grand Isle County, Vermont per 1790, 1810, 1830, and 1840 Census.
  2. Rev. War Pension No. S16015. Received an annual pension of $41.21.
  3. 1759-1776: It is assumed Gardner spent his boyhood in Washington Co. Rhode Island removing to Massachusetts before the age of 17, from where he served during the Revolutionary War.
  4. Stated in his pension: "He was a substitute for his father, to serve his term in the Continental Army, entering from the town of Hardwick, MA where he resided."
  5. "My next term of service was performed under Lt. Wheeler of New Britian, in the state of New York, at which place I resided. A substitute for Benjamin Wait, my uncle, who was drafted into Service, last day of Aug 1781."
