I recently received the following e-mails. I am in the process of contacting A representative of Precious Moments. I am trying to find out what their policy is and what I have to do to get permission to post these graphics. Being aware that this Company is christian based, I do not believe that they would use this mean spirited, intimidating approch to the problem. I was in no way claiming that I created these graphics nor was I trying in anyway to profit from posting them. I simply enjoy these graphics very much and was trying to share my passion for Sam Butcher's artwork with the rest of you. I was not aware I was doing anything wrong, after all, I have found many pages similar to mine and since I am new to the web I assumed it was O.K. to do what I had seen others do. The author of the following E-mail also placed a nasty message in my guestbook which I have removed. I appologize to all of you for the insulting manner in which she addressed this situation. Until I get a response to my letter to Precious Moments The following links will not work. If I do get permission to post these graphics I will let you know. Your site was brought to my attention today. I have to notify you that you must delete ALL of your Precious Moments graphics at once! You are in direct copyright and trademark violation of PRECIOUS MOMENTS. When you scanned your graphics from the various Precious Moments products you should have noted the copyright on EVERY graphic, book, calender and so forth.
All PRECIOUS MOMENTS artwork is protected by copyright, and the PRECIOUS MOMENTS trademarks are registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Only authorized PRECIOUS MOMENTS licensees may use our artwork and/or our trademarks in connection with products or services of any kind.
I will come by to check your site to ensure that you have removed all of the PM graphics and you must notify ALL persons who may have used your "free" graphics that they must also remove them at once.
I recently discovered a site offering MANY Precious Moments images adapted for use on web pages and based on Sam's work. The owner of the page states the images are free to use.... In return she asks for a link to her site. Since I am currently involved with developing graphics, it really angers me to see someone who blatantly uses the work of others without permission.... There is no indication that she is licensed to
distribute these images.... without permission.... Personally, I think a bit of a tough scare letter demanding that she remove the graphics is not only in order, but might convince a few people that the copyright laws are for real and not to be ignored. {This is an incorrect statement. I have never sent an advertisement of any sort to anyone. I do not have a mailing list of any sort. I don't know where she got this information but it is not true...!}In addition, she advertised this site on a mailing list for nearly 1,000 people who do not understand copyright laws and have to be constantly reminded not to use an artist's work.

I have sent you an email earlier in the week requesting that you remove all of the PM graphics from your website. Since to date this has not been done I am addressing it one last time. I have copied what you have posted on your board. You are blatently disregarding all copyright and trademarks of Precious Moments by posting these images then offering them "free" to others further violating all copyright laws. As you can see on the bottom of your page you are also claiming that you have copyrights to this artwork.
I would highly suggest that you remove these images at once before the lawyers get involved. All PRECIOUS MOMENTS artwork is protected by copyright, and the PRECIOUS MOMENTS trademarks are registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Only authorized PRECIOUS MOMENTS licensees may use our artwork and/or our trademarks in connection with products or services of any kind.
