What hold do you have on me
That every time I try to leave I can't?
What hold do you have on me
That keeps bringing me back to you?
You can't offer me comfort
You can't offer me love
You can't hold my at night
You can't take care of me when I'm sick.
Yet every time I leave I feel you calling me back
Back to your beauty
Back to your strength
Back to your solitude
Back to your simplicity
Again I ask myself what hold do you have on me?
You bring back memories of my childhood
Memories of dusty feet wiggling in the dirt
Watching for sharp rocks as they run
The first bud blooming on a tree branch
The first butterfly flitting through the air
The first blush of a flower as it brings forth its blooms
Spring is here again
Laughter ringing in the air
Shouting to one another
Creeks trickling down stream
Dusty feet wading in the cool water
Blistering heat in the middle of the day
Chasing us inside for cool lemonade
Carefree days of playing in the creeks
Summer is here again
Back to school to learn the three R's
Dreading being picked on by others
Because of my differences to them
Back to stock shows in big cities
The only vacations we get with Dad
Turkey at Thanksgiving with family
Days shorting from the long lazy days of summer
Fall is here again
Waiting excitedly for Christmas to come
Wondering if snow will fall this year
To make snow angles and throw snowballs
Taking off from school for another
Stock show in the big city
Waiting for spring to come so we
Can go out side and run around barefooted again
Winter is here again
Still I wonder what hold you have on me.
