As I travelled further north in Scotland, I just
couldn't believe how incredibly beautiful
the scenery was. I don't even know which
loch this was... they just popped up everywhere!
This is the outside view of a broch (pronounced brock)
in Glenelg, near Kyle of Lochalsh. According to my cab
driver (okay, so I splurged and rented a cab for
the afternoon...there, you've tricked it outa me. LOL!!!)
the brochs were built as stone fortifications 3000 years
ago when the climate changed and people had to protect
themselves against hungry neighbours. Some of these
brochs were 80' tall!
This is the other side of the upper pic of the broch.
This broch is about 20' tall. Imagine my horror when
the cabbie pulled a little stone outa this thing and
gave it to me!!!! I really didn't know what to do!!
I debated on trying to stick it back in but I had visions
of National Lampoon's Eurovacation and could envision
the whole bloody thing coming down!
So, I said thanks, instead.
