James
I've resisted putting up a page about myself for quite some tyme. The main reason is that personal homepages are, more often than not, little more than individual boxes in cyberspace. Most of them are never seen by more than a handful of people, if that. I wanted my homepage to be a jumping point for my own explorations into the internet and the WWW, and I already knew who I was.
However, with more and more of my family and friends comming online, and with my own online presence being spread about, _AND_ with the surprisingly large number of James Gustafson's online, I thought I would put up a little info telling whomever is interested who I am.
My name is James Gustafson and I am currently a husband to a wonderful woman, Andrea, a son to several mothers and fathers (lets not ask too many questions ;'), a brother to several sisters and brothers, and a friend to more people than I can count. In addition to tackeling those tough jobs, I am also a Computer Science student attending G.S.U. and living in Bradely Il. I am persuing my Air Force commision via R.O.T.C. at I.I.T. in Chicago with Det. 195. In the past I have been an Air Force Chaplain's assistant, including bookkeeping, worship preperation, publicity as well as other less 'glamourous' positions. I have been a Philosophy and Theology student, focusing on Existentialism and Historical Jesus studies. I have lived in three different and very distinct countries, inlcuding my recent two and a half year tour in Northern Italy. And I have read more than my share of books!
I have an intense interest in the ideas and beliefs that drive humanity to be what it is, including all things religious, philosophy, science, history, as well as numerous other fields of human endeavor.
As for my own beliefs, they are much more difficult to pin down. I find myself drawn towards neo-pagans religiously, specifically I believe, because of thier doctrine of immenent deity. However, as much as I yearn for understanding, I find myself completely lacking in that department. I often joke that the Gods have appearently fogotten about me.
I tend to be highly individualistic and am silently awed by the quiet people who keep thier own counsel. I have tried to surround myself with these individuals for the sake of merry conversation and love. My friends and family are probably the most important thing in my life, and in the best of tymes, there is no difference between the two. I don't keep in touch with many of them as often as I should, but it doesn't mean that I don't love them any less!
When I am not spending my tyme buried in a book, I enjoy fantasy roleplaying. I also spend a great deal of tyme with the computer, trying to guess where the next revolution in technology will take society (wondering when society will catch up with where the currant level has already landed us.) I like watching good Sci-Fi movies as well as catching up on the vintage movies that came "before my tyme."
The information on the WWW that I like to keep track of can be found on Questing Rat's Page Some good roleplaying links as well as some of my own information can be found on Questing Rat's Roleplaying Page. Or you can go back to the main page.
