Family Lines

Historically, branches of the Gawith family appear to have originated in the parishes of Furness, Lancashire (North of the Sands).
Later they were also found domiciled further afield in Broughton-in-Furness, Kendal in Westmorland, and as far as Liverpool, Lancashire.
Today there are known branches in the USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

An examination of the early records shows that distinct family lines existed before c1650, the majority of these were native to the Furness area.

For research purposes I have identified family lines by the forename of the first recorded family head and the place that they were domiciled.
My family line descends from "Robert of Ulverston" (m circa 1634)

Thus we get the following family lines:

Gawith of Broughton in Furness
(This is a link to Brad McKenzie's Gawith Tree)

Gawith of Ulverston (bc 1600) - (My Family Line)

Gawith of Kendal (m bef 1634) - (Yet To Come)

Note that some of these family lines may now be extinct.
Personally, I have mostly worked on the Gawith line of Ulverston.

If you have details of your family's descent I would appreciate learning of the details, please email me Keith Vautier
