This pattern is written in Preemie size with changes for Newborn in Parenthesis.
To fit a 3lb preemie use Jamie or Cuddlesoft or similar weight 3 ply baby yarn (NOT baby sport weight) and an F OR G hook for larger preemies. Most Hospitals won't use one on a baby smaller than 3lbs. To fit a newborn, use a H hook and either baby sport, baby sport pompadour or sport.

NOTE: Unless otherwise stated, ch 2 counts as first stitch of a row.
PREEMIE: Chain 21
NEWBORN: Chain 23
Row 1: Dc in third chain from hook and each chain across. Turn. DO NOT CHAIN 2.
Rows 2-5: Slip St in first st, dc in each dc across to last dc. Leave last Dc unworked.
Rows 6-9: Chain 2, turn. Dc in each dc across. At the end of row 9, chain 2, turn.
Rows 10-13: DO NOT SKIP FIRST STITCH! Dc in first stitch and in each dc across to last dc. Work 2 dc in last st.
Row 14: Ch 2, turn. Dc in each Dc across. Fold Garment in half so that the long ends are at the top. Connect to first stitch of other side with a slip stitch.
Row 15: Ch 2, Dc in each Dc across to end, then connect other side with a double crochet in the first stitch, Dc all the way across to slip stitch of previous row, join with a slip stitch.
Row 16-18: Ch 2, Dc around to beginning Ch 2 and join with a slip stitch.
OPTIONAL: Use a round of Sc or Dc to trim leg holes, and 2 rounds of sc or one round of Dc to trim wasitband.
Fasten off and tie in indicated spots with ribbon or crocheted ties.
