NEWBORN'S GOWN

This pattern is not recommended for a burial outfit. Use BABY SPORT weight or SPORT yarn with an H hook.

Pattern is equivalent to the often large 0-3mos size you see in stores. For a small newborn or "Take Home" size chain 40 then continue with the rest of the pattern.

Special Stitches Used: Shell= (dc, ch1, dc) in indicated stitch.

Chain 45, join to form a circle. (Be careful not to twist the chain!)

Row 1: Ch 2, (counts as first dc now and throughout) and DC in the next 6 st. Shell in next st, dc in next 9 st, shell in next st, dc in next 13 st, shell in next st, dc in next 9 st, shell in next st, dc in last 7 st. Join with a slip stitch.

Rows 2-5: Ch 2, Dc to ch-1 sp, shell in ch-1 sp, Dc across to next ch-1 sp, shell in ch-1 sp, dc across to next ch-1 sp, shell in ch-1 sp, dc across to next ch-1 sp shell in ch-1 sp, dc in remaining sp. Join to with a slip stitch.

Row 6: Ch 2, turn. Dc to first ch-1 sp, fold garment over (so that all corners are on bottom) and connect first and second ch-1 spaces with a dc. Dc across unworked spaces (These will form the front of your garment- your seam is joined in the back) to next ch-1 sp, connect 3rd and 4th ch-1 spaces with a dc. Dc across other side to the end. Join with a slip stitch.

Row 7: Ch 2, turn. DC in each DC across.

Repeat Row 7 until gown measures 16" from neck.

Optional: Add long sleeves - join yarn in any dc of short sleeve, chain 2 and dc around. Join with a slip stitch. Sleeves should be about 7" long.
