Ripple afghan
Uses multiples of 11 + 3

For an adult pattern:
Chain 264 +3 = 66" wide (width will shrink some as ripple is made)

Row 1: Dc in 3rd Ch from hook and next 8 ch. *3Dc in next ch, dc in next 8 dc. Skip next 2 ch, dc in next 8 chains, repeat from * across to last 11 chains, dc in last 11 chains. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Work Dc decrease over next 2 dc. To do this, wrap yarn over, go in next DC as in a normal DC, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook leaving 2 remaining loops on hook. Now wrap yarn over again and insert in next stitch as if doing a normal double crochet. There should be 4 loops on the hook. Pull yarn through first 2 loops to make half the stitch, then pull yarn through three remaining loops on hook. Stitch made.

Dc in next 8 stitches (you should have a total of 10 stitches from the end), *3dc in next stitch, dc in next 8 dc, skip next 2 stitches, dc in next 8 dc, repeat from * to last 3 dc, work dc decrease using next 2 dc, dc in last dc.

Repeat Row 2 throughout, changing colors if desired every 6 rows.

If you make one of these afghans, please consider donating an afghan to a child in Pine Ridge, SD who may be in a foster home for abused/neglected children or residential substance abuse treatment center (kids up to 11 years old stay with their moms receiving treatment and often come in with only the clothes they are wearing)or learn how to sponsor a child with no fees, just letters and a gift or card now and then. For More information visit Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation.

There are lots of ways you can help the people of Pine Ridge where there is a huge poverty level due to no jobs available for hundreds of miles, and temps hit -30 below zero in the winter. Many die from exposure in the winter, live in substandard overcrowded (15-20 people to a small house or trailer)housing often with broken or missing doors or windows, dirt floors, no furniture including beds, refrigerators and stoves, no electricity and no plumbing or running water. The average yearly income is around $6,000 for Pine Ridge while the average yearly income for the rest of the US is around $21,000.... now why is that when we live in the richest country in the world and a community in SD exists like a third world country?? Please visit today and see how you can help these people help themselves.
