Glen's Story
My name is Glen and I was born in Abilene, Texas. When I was five years old we moved to Levelland
(just west of Lubbock) and I started first grade there. I had only been in school a couple of
weeks when we moved to Lubbock. Right after I started third grade we moved to College Station.
We stayed there for six weeks and then moved to Rosenberg. I started fourth grade there and then
we moved to Odessa. We lived there until I was about halfway through eighth grade, then we moved
back to Abilene, full circle. I lived there until I was 25, at which point I pulled up stakes and
moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The reason we moved around so much is because my dad was a salesman for Hillyard Chemical Company
and he kept getting transferred to different places. He quit Hillyard when we moved to Odessa,
which is why we stayed there so long. He went back into the tire business (which is what he did
before he worked for Hillyard) and worked at the Uniroyal place. The reason we moved back to
Abilene is because my dad retired and because Abilene was his favorite place to live.
