THE FOWBLE FAMILY

Peter Fowble, by trade a blacksmith, the first of the family to come to America, from Germany, his wife's (1) Margaret, (2) Catherine. Peter and his sons Melchor and Michael refused to take the oath of Allegiance in Maryland after the American Revolution. Peter first settled in Pennsylvania, but later moved to Baltimore County, Maryland where in 1762 he purchased his first land in Maryland, and paid for it in Pennsylvania Currency. This land is located in the vicinity of Greenmount (now Carroll County). In addition to land boought by Peter he also found several pieces of land for whgich he received a patent, one of these he named "Fouples New Germany." This piece of land was given to his son Frederick at Peter's death and Frederick sold it to a Mr. Airy. Peter's brother John also came to this country with him. He died in 1796 and Peter was adminstrator and only heir. Peter died in 1799 and his Will is on record.
