# ID: I12140
# Name: James ABRAHAMS
# Sex: M
# Birth: 1782 in New Jersey or Virginia
# Death: 9 FEB 1874 in Marion Co., OH
# Burial: UNKNOWN Old Eden cemetery, Delaware Co., OH
# Note:
He is listed a one of the pioneer settlers of Delaware Co.,
OH, along with an Andrew Jackson Abrams. Both were there by 1830.
He claims to have served in the War of 1812, and filed a
pension application for that service (S.O. 19,501) but his claim was
rejected. BLW Application papers are dated mostly 1855 and he DID get a
Bounty Land Warrant (#4282-120-55) in 1855. However, he did not receive
the intitial warrant for 120 acres, and it was apparently "lost in the
mail." They even ran an ad in the local paper in Delaware Co., OH,
inquiring about it (copy in the records).
S.O. 19,501 (Rejected) Abrahams, James
Service: Capt. Samuel Donivans (or Donavins) Ohio Volunteers
Served from July 31, 1813 to 5 Sept. 1813, 42 days, "the full period of
service by the Company." Sixty days or more of service were required to
be eligible for a survivor's pension, and his pension application was
denied on July 20, 1872. The documents and letters (most dated 1871 or
1872) supporting his pension application state the following: He was
drafted as a private at Granville, Ohio in August 1813 into Capt.
Samuel Donavin's (or Dunevin's) Company of Col. Williamson's Regiment
of the Ohio Militia, and he was discharged at Delaware, Ohio in
November 1813. His formal declaration, completed on 21 August 1872 in
Probate Court in Delaware Co., Ohio, states that he was 90 years of age
at the time, and a resident of Kingston twp., Delaware Co.; that his
wife's name was Catherine WEST, to whom he was married at Granville,
Licking Co., Ohio on the (blank) day of March, 1813. He was apparently
unable to read or write, and signed the papers with an X. That he
received from Gov. Meigs two land warrants, one for 40 and one for 120
acres of land. His application was attested to by Sharrad Hubbell (his
son-in-law), who also signed with an X. Serveral of the documents list
his name like this: "James Abrahams (sometimes spelled Abrams)". That
after his initial service in 1813, he volunteered at Upper Sandusky
under Gov. Meigs for another 40 days, and was honorably discharged by
Gov. Meigs at Delaware, Ohio in Nov. of 1813, but never received
discharge papers.

DESCENDANTS OF JOHN VICKERY
Compiled by Michael E. Cafferky

Walla Walla, WA 99362-8206
(the address on this page is not correct, as of Jan. 2005)
17. Edmund Erastus Vickery [4] son of Jonathan Vickery and Loraine
Eastman was born November 1830. He married a woman by the name of (1)
Amanda in 1854 or 1855 in New York state. They were divorced in 1863.
He married (2) Nancy Ann Abrahams 13 September 1864 in Tama County,
Iowa. Nancy had been previously married to William Abrahams in 1854.
William Abrahams died in December 1859. Nancy Ann Abrahams was the
daughter of Josiah William Smith (1811 – Bef.
1856) and Eliza Bonham (1812 – 1878). Edmund E.
Vickery served as a blacksmith in Company A of the 8th Regiment Iowa
Volunteer Infantry from August 1861 through July 1862 and fought at the
Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing, TN) in April of 1862. Upon his
retirement he was admitted to live at the Iowa
SoldiersÂ’ Home in Marshalltown (Marshall County),
IA. He died 5 Jan 1900.
Nancy Ann Smith and William Abrahams had two children: America May
Abrahams and James J. Abrahams.
The children of Edmund E. Vickery and his second wife Nancy Ann
Abrahams (Smith) are:
+29vi.Jennie E. Vickery [5] was born in 1865 in Tama County, IA.
+30vii.Simon J. Vickery [5] was born in 1868 in Tama County, IA and
died in 1870. He is buried in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea (Tama County),
IA.
+31vii.Robert A. Vickery [5] was born in 1870 in Tama County, IA and
died in 1872. He is buried in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea (Tama County),
IA.
+32viii.Edmund Kasson Vickery [5] was born 13 July 1874 in Chelsea
(Tama County), IA. He died 30 July 1957 in Casper (Natrona County), WY.
+33ix.Martha M. Vickery [5] was born in 1877 in Chelsea (Tama County),
IA. She died in 1955 in Chelsea (Tama County), IA.
According to Nancy Ann Smith Vickery's widow's pension application, her
first husband William Abrahams died in "Glasgow, Iowa in December
1859." This Glasgow is evidently in Jefferson Co., IA. There is another
Glasgow in Black Hawk Co., and he could have died there, but he appears
to be the son of James and Mary Abrams/Abrahams, and THEY were living
in Glasgow PO, Jefferson Co., IA in 1859.

partial index, not the land records.
Perhaps this will give you some leads. Linda F.
